A Red Telephone Box in London
A cultural symbol of Britain
These iconic Telephone Boxes were designed by architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott
The red colour was chosen to make the booths easy to spot.
The first public phone box in the UK was installed in 1920, & a more visually appealing design was created in 1923.
The number of red telephone boxes has declined due to the rise of mobile phones, but many have been repurposed for other uses, such as book exchanges & art exhibits.
The street sign in the image is "Great George Street SW1" in the City of Westminster
