The Lenovo 00FM518 is a system-interconnect switch that slides directly into a Lenovo Flex System chassis and immediately provides twenty-four ports of high-speed, Layer 3 managed connectivity. Designed for administrators who need reliable, low-latency links between compute nodes and the rest of the data center, it combines internal downlinks and external uplinks in one compact module.
Inside the chassis, the switch offers fourteen 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports that map straight to the Flex System servers. This design keeps traffic local to the chassis, reducing hop count and latency for clustered workloads such as virtualization hosts, database nodes, or high-performance computing clusters.
For north-south traffic that leaves the chassis, ten SFP+ ports sit on the front panel and can run at either 1 Gigabit or 10 Gigabit speeds. Administrators can tailor bandwidth by choosing the appropriate transceivers, whether they are connecting to top-of-rack aggregation switches or to storage networks that require converged traffic.
The module includes full Layer 3 routing functions along with RADIUS, TACACS+, and LDAP support, allowing it to drop seamlessly into existing authentication frameworks. Data Center Bridging and Converged Enhanced Ethernet features make it suitable for environments that carry storage and traditional Ethernet traffic across the same fabric. Because the switch uses Lenovo’s Flex System fabric architecture, it avoids traditional spanning tree protocols and needs only minimal configuration, so new chassis can be brought online quickly.
A limited one-year Lenovo warranty backs the hardware, giving IT teams confidence when planning life-cycle maintenance or expansion of their Flex System infrastructure.
