The recent surge of mergers and acquisitions within organizations has failed to yield the desired outcomes of enhancing organizational performance and maintaining a competitive edge. Numerous U.S. mergers have struggled to retain market competitiveness and retain valuable employees. Similarly, in Nigeria, many consolidated and merged banks find themselves in distress, failing to improve their organizational performance.

Today, organizational leaders are grappling with the challenge of integrating multiple merged cultures to uphold employee commitment, job satisfaction, and retention. To address this issue, the author conducted a quantitative correlational and regression study, utilizing data from a merged bank in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Nigeria. The study aimed to examine the relationship between organizational culture and organizational performance.

The results of the study revealed a significant association between a measure of cultural traits, encompassing mission, involvement, consistency, and adaptability, and each of the organizational performance measures, including employee commitment, job satisfaction, and employee retention. This finding underscores the importance of considering cultural factors when striving for higher performance in partnership mergers and acquisitions.

In response to the failures of past mergers, this book by Henrietta Okoro offers valuable insights by integrating organizational culture traits with research findings. It provides readers with distinctive strategies to enhance and sustain employee retention, job satisfaction, and higher organizational performance. Special emphasis is placed on distressed banks, global bank mergers, acquisition trends, and their implications for sustainability. Practical recommendations are provided to leaders across various industries, while also highlighting potential areas for future research.

The book highlights the crucial factors of job satisfaction and employee commitment, emphasizing the need to go beyond financial gains in mergers and acquisitions. By understanding and nurturing the cultural aspects within organizations, leaders can create a conducive environment that fosters employee engagement, innovation, and long-term success.
